OpenNavData — open official data along your route
Before a voyage, the bridge or the office collects data scattered across many sources: which charts the route needs, which fairways are official, which environmental rules apply, which passages the ship can make. Usually that means several tools, paid accounts, or manual work.
OpenNavData gathers it in one run, for free, from open official sources. Enter departure and destination (or load an RTZ route), press «① Build route», and get:
- Fairways — the route along official fairways and fairway areas where national authorities publish them (Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, the USA, Japan), elsewhere along a shipping-lane network;
- ENC cells — the cells along the corridor, from open catalogues or from your own exchange set (PRODUCTS.TXT);
- MARPOL areas — Emission Control Areas and Special Areas crossed, with distance and time inside;
- Passage limits — the Panama and Suez canals and the St. Lawrence Seaway closed to the route where your vessel profile exceeds their published limits, and the fairways whose published depth your draft exceeds closed (or, on request, kept with a caution);
- Traffic separation schemes — routes follow them (COLREG Rule 10): the Dover Strait, Ushant, the Casquets and the Corsica Channel from SHOM; three Finnish schemes from Traficom; Bab el-Mandeb, Port Said, Gibraltar, the Malacca Strait at One Fathom Bank and the German Bight from OpenStreetMap, where every traffic lane (TSS) passes our completeness tests;
- Voyage estimate — «② Estimate voyage»: a pre-fixture estimate from the route — sea and port days, fuel inside and outside ECAs, CO2e, EU ETS, costs, result and TCE (Help 12);
- Export — the route (RTZ) and the cell list (CSV) for your ECDIS and for ordering.
Who it is for: navigating officers, superintendents, chart agents, anyone preparing a voyage or a chart order.
What it is not: not a passage plan and not for navigation. It is an indicative corridor for voyage preparation and data procurement; the passage plan is made on certified ECDIS with official charts.
Open: each source under its own open licence (see Sources), our derived data under ODbL, code under EUPL-1.2 on request. No registration; routes are not stored — only daily counts by country, network, broad sea region and vessel class (see the Agreement on the main page).
